Nellie

Nellie came to us as a stray, and it's safe to say she hasn't had much guidance in life so far. She's a big, friendly girl with a lovely nature, but she's starting from scratch when it comes to training.

Since arriving with us she has been a happy, goofy, super friendly girl and you can't help but smile at her! Unfortunately, Nellie is completely unaware that she's a large dog. In her mind, she's roughly the size of a chihuahua and therefore perfectly entitled to try to climb into your lap, lean her full weight against you, jump up and invade your personal space whenever the mood takes her.

On the lead, Nellie can bounce, pull and treat walks as an exciting adventure but without distractions she can walk perfectly to heel with a loose lead but we are working on her walking perfect at all times. Basic commands are completely new to her too, and asking for a sit is usually met with a very puzzled expression. None of this is through any fault of her own—she simply hasn't been taught. Because of this, any potential home must be committed to continuing her training and attending classes to get her up to scratch with her manners and commands.

Nellie is an active dog who will need a home that can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. She hasn't quite figured out what toys are for yet, but she makes her own entertainment by racing around the playpen at full speed, enjoying every second of it though the enjoyment may not extend to her handlers who often have to dive out of her way as she has no idea where she is running to or how to stop. For this reason, Nellie is looking for a home without young children, as she would undoubtedly knock them over without meaning to.

Despite her lack of manners, Nellie has a wonderful temperament. She's friendly, affectionate and always happy to meet new people. She is also good with other dogs who are themselves friendly but would be best in a home as an only dog to get all the 1-2-1 training and time she needs.

Nellie isn't a ready-made dog. She'll need time, patience and training, but beneath all the excitement is a lovely girl who just needs someone willing to show her the way.
