Mandy has come into us from another rescue, she has been with us for over 2 months but we now finally feel she is ready to start the next part of her journey into her forever home!
When Mandy first arrived she alike many others before her and likely many to come in the future, was very shut down and fearful of everything including the people here to help her. It took over a week for us to build a rapport with her enough to enter her kennel, it was then a gradual process of working with her relationship with the lead, moving then to venturing out into the corridor and then out on to the fields. We can happily say that Mandy now looks forward to her walks, loves exploring the fields and running round the playpen.
Though her confidence has drastically increased there are times where her nerves rear their head but these are getting less and less, she is even going out with volunteer walkers now just taking a few minutes to assess they are ok and off she goes tail wagging enjoying her walks.
We have found that Mandy generally gets along with most dogs her friends here who she goes off lead to play with are Evie the Collie and Lia the Crossbreed, there are some dogs that she doesn't want to play with but in no way is she reactive nor a bother on her walks, instead she will just ignore them and continue her walk.
On the lead she can walk well, when she first comes out she is strong in her keenness to get walking but once settled she does walk well. We will be looking for a relatively active home so she can enjoy plenty of walks, we don't think she wants to be hiking mountains daily but will certainly need more then a pootle round the block.
We don't doubt that Mandy will likely take steps backwards moving into her new home, but with the right experienced, sympathetic and dedicated owner we hope she will be making leaps forwards!
