Nina has come into our care as a stray, sadly with no history to tell us about her past. What we do know is that she arrived very underweight, absolutely covered in fleas and with some incredibly sore ears.

Thankfully, her unwanted passengers have now been evicted, she is enjoying plenty of yummy meals to help her get back to a healthy weight, and we're also working hard on getting those sore ears feeling much more comfortable.

It's pretty clear that Nina hasn't had much done with her in the past — not only in terms of basic care, but also when it comes to training and socialisation. But underneath all of that is a very clever girl with so much potential, and we'd love to find her a home that will really enjoy helping her discover it.

Nina would benefit from someone who is willing and able to take her along to training classes and help her get up to speed with her basic commands, manners and obedience. She's a bright girl and we think she'll really thrive when given the guidance and consistency she's clearly been missing.

Her lead walking is another area that will need continued work. She's made vast improvements since arriving with us, but she's not quite at the loose-lead stage... yet! With time, patience and plenty of practice, we're confident she'll continue to improve.

Nina is also an active girl with plenty of energy, so we're looking for an active home that will enjoy taking her out on adventures and exploring the world together. Whether that's long walks, new places to sniff or mental stimulation sessions to get that clever brain working, Nina will be ready to get stuck in!

But despite all that energy, Nina has a wonderfully affectionate side. In the playpen, she's not particularly bothered about toys, she'll have a brief run around, but her main priority is coming straight back to you for fuss, cuddles, kisses and belly rubs — all of which she will gratefully receive in abundance for as long as you're willing to give them!

Nina can be reactive towards other dogs when she's on the lead, but we feel this is much more likely to be down to a lack of experience and understanding rather than her not liking other dogs. We have carefully introduced her to a dog-friendly dog, and while she wasn't quite sure what to make of things at first, once they had both had time to acclimatise, she was absolutely fine. Because of this, we feel Nina would benefit from ongoing, socialisation with suitable dogs, learning how to approach and interact appropriately and, importantly learning that she doesn't need to bark at every dog she sees and that other dogs can actually be friends! With patient guidance and controlled introductions, we hope this is another area where Nina can continue to grow in confidence and learn some valuable dog etiquette.

Nina has had a difficult start, but she's already shown us just how much she can change with the right care. Now she needs someone who will continue that journey with her — helping her learn, explore, grow in confidence and, most importantly, showing her just how wonderful life can be.
